AVERAGE RATING
The Bahamas has the world's third longest barrier reef and about 14. 5% of the world's coral can be found in our waters. The islands are made entirely of calcium carbonate, which is mainly produced or precipitated by the organisms of coral reefs. There are no rivers in The Bahamas. Most notable, however, is that each island has its own diversity that continues beyond geography, carrying through to the heart of The Bahamas, the Bahamian people. You’ll find it in our heritage. In our culture. And in our humble pride. These are The Islands Of The Bahamas. Population: somewhere north of 305,000. With 700 islands sprinkled out over 100,000 sq. miles of ocean, The Bahamas offers the largest assortment of vacation spots of any tropical destination. Islands are circled by cays (pronounced “keys”). Some cays are surrounded by uninhabited rocks. Which island or cay is right for your vacation? Well, you won’t know until you know more about our 14 main islands that serve as hubs for the remaining 686 islands. |

| After arriving at Nassau we were met at the airport and driven to Sandals. Our luggage was taken up to our room and we were given our room keys. That's when the problems started. We went to our room and opened the door. The room was occupied and somebody was in the shower. We had been given the wrong room. On our way back down to reception, we spotted the luggage cart and noted which room our luggage was supposed to go to. At reception, the problem was quickly sorted out and we were assigned another room. We stayed in the main house (the former residence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor). The room was large but slightly shabby. The loo was blocked and the problem wasn't sorted out until after midnight (we checked in about 3.30 in the afternoon). Tipping not allowed so it was very hard to spend any money. Plenty of sunbeds and towels provided. The main beach was a bit small but the private island was peaceful and not crowded. All food and premium brand drinks were available when wanted. A large wet bar with full bottles of spirits was in the room. A beautiful resort but I'm not sure I would want to visit some of the other Sandals resorts. The Bahamas Sandals was supposed to be the Caribbean's most elegent resort. It was nice but slightly shabby and rather like an upmarket Butlins. |
